My fascination with the natural world began with “The Voyage of the Beagle” by Charles Darwin. Ever since I read it as a kid, I dreamed of becoming an audacious explorer, just like Darwin himself. That passion led me to study Natural Sciences, first in high school and later through a master’s degree.
My scientific path started well — six unforgettable months studying sea turtles on a remote Mexican beach. But when I later found myself dissecting fruit fly neurons in a Swedish lab, I realized that science could sometimes feel... a little less adventurous. (Though my study did make it into PubMed, so it wasn’t all for nothing!)
The real turning point came when I joined DocLab, a leading Italian documentary production company. My very first assignment was researching for “SuperQuark”, Italy’s most iconic science TV show. There I met Piero Angela, the country’s most celebrated science communicator — another childhood dream fulfilled. Watch here. That’s when I realized my true calling: telling stories through images. For nearly three years I learned the craft of documentary filmmaking from some of the best mentors in the field — from writing and directing to sound and cinematography.
Today, based in Milan, I work as a freelance director and cinematographer, creating documentaries, branded content, and commercials across the world — including in my lifelong dream destination, the Galápagos Islands. Watch here.
My work blends scientific curiosity with a constant search for beauty — not a static or idealized beauty, but a living one. As the great Vittorio De Seta once said: “The easiest way to photograph a butterfly is to pin it in a showcase — but then, it’s dead.”
To me, vitality is the truest form of beauty — imperfections and all. From the silence of nature to the noise of human struggle, I try to find meaning in the spaces where beauty and truth collide.
